A new study suggests minority communities are disproportionately at risk when wildfires strike. Ian Davies contributed to that research at the University of Washington and broke down the factors that contribute to these vulnerabilities.

This affects ALL low income earners in California. Why continue to divide? You divided people into their wealth class then you continued to divide them in their ethnic class. You have everyone divided down to their underwear.

what a crock, brain-dead college students as usual. Yeah sure, full bunch of black people in Malibu being roasted life. Way up in the middle of nowhere in paradise minorities died. I bet out of the 40 some people who have died in these fires not one was a black person. Why is fake news broadcasting this crap?

I suspect we have a college student trying To build his" social score" by emphasizing the poor migrant or minority or homosexual or feminist, which of course is the fastest way to build a social score. What irritates me is that this crap has been inserted into this tragedy which has nothing to do with minorities, and everything to do with the white middle-class and the rich. There were no minorities of any count living in paradise California, and most of the people in Malibu were not poor struggling minorities.

Glass half full senario. It's probably true the conclusion of this students research is common sense and it's also probably true the media wanted to churn out fire related stories and tie them to the current fire for clicks. It's also true that the research paper was written so it's not fake news, nor should it be upsetting to hear about. There are thousands of news reports, why focus on for profit click bait?

the question is, why would anyone be focusing on the poor, and the minorities, when they are totally unaffected by this horrific fire?

Read the title again. The study concluded, poor people are vulnerable, not that the poor are more prone to having their house catch fire.

So sad. It’s going to cost real money to remove decades of undergrowth but that’s what is needed to end this problem.
